Minutes of BOM Meeting, Tuesday 11th October 2016

The heating is not working in the school. Whilst this is not an issue at the moment due to the mild weather, it does need to be sorted out as quickly as possible.
There are a wide number of minor snag issues. Sammon will be in over half term to work through the issues on the list.
The school has not signed up to a gas supply company yet, quotes will be sought from Flo gas and from Calor
Travel and sustainability sub-committee are hoping to meet with the council regarding signage and traffic calming measures.
Staff to discuss with children the importance of travelling to school safely.
The School website will be launched after half term.
Enrolment number returned to DES 361, 359 needed to appoint a new teacher in September 2017, annual census must be returned by the end of October
EAL appeal successful – there are currently 94 pupils who have at least one parent who speak a language other than English as their first language.
There has been an increase of hours for the cleaners, due to the increased area needed to be cleaned in the new building.
A new bus escort is needed for the Arklow bus, this person will need to be Garda vetted.
The Board agreed that the open day will now take place on Sunday November 20th
16th November – NPC National parents council in the school hall.
27th February – school will be closed due to staff attending a course at Blackrock Education Centre.
All extra-curricular activities, with the exception of homework club and after school provision will now start in the new year
Code of behaviour – The staff would like to review the code of behaviour. There will be a questionnaire for students and parents regarding behaviour in the school. There was some discussion regarding what questions should be asked and how we can ensure that we receive feedback from all members of the school community
There is a far smaller financial deficit than this time last year. At the end of the school year, the Board hope to have a clearer idea of how finances have been affected by the move to the new building.
There will be a meeting involving the Chair of the Board, teachers and parents who are currently on the PTA committee, which hopes to give a clear structure for the PTA going forward. It is hoped that Deidre O’Donoghue will visit the school to give further guidance.
