Extra-Curricular Activities Programme Term 2
Reminder to all parents/guardians, the final term 1 Science, Guitar and Soccer class will take place on Monday 8th January. The final term 1 playball class will take place on Tuesday 9th January. Please note there will be no yoga class on Monday 8th January.
Homework club will begin on Monday 8th January at 2.30pm.
Term 2 of our extra-curricular programme will begin on Monday 15th January and will run until Thursday 22rd March. All our existing classes will continue for term 2. We are also delighted to confirm that we have added Sally’s Sewing Club to the timetable for the new term! You can register for term 2 from Wed 10th January until Friday 12th January from 9.00am until 10.00am. I will be in the library each morning to receive forms and registration fees.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We have a new format registration form for 2018. Please ensure you complete all sections of the form. A form must be completed by all those registering for term 2 regardless of whether your child was attending an activity in term 1 or not.
REGISTRATION PROCESS If your child attended a class in term 1 and you would like them to continue that class for term 2, please drop a completed registration form and term 2 registration fees in to myself in the library (9am-10am) between Wed 10th and Friday 12th January or drop it into the school office in a sealed envelope for attention Lisa Jervis by Friday 12th January latest.
If your child did not attend a class in term 1 and you would like them to join a class for term 2, please complete the registration form attached and come to the library on one of the registration mornings to confirm if there is a place available.
If your child attended a class in term 1 and you do not plan to register them for term 2, please email firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible so we can allocate that place to another child on the waiting list.
Term 2 registration fees must be paid in full by Friday 2nd February.

Anyone 4 Science 1.30 – 2.20 (JUNIOR & SENIOR INFANTS) AND 2.30 -3.30 1st – 6th Class www.anyone4science.com –
Anyone 4 Science is an educational organisation providing hands-on science and engineering activities for primary school children. They take science subjects normally taught at third level and present them at primary school level through age appropriate experiments.

Joe and Brian will run soccer classes every Monday for our 2nd to 6th class pupils.

Michael Steadman from continue his guitar lessons here at the school. Aimed at beginners and improver, these classes are an ideal way to start instrumental tuition. Children must have their own guitar and a folder for practice sheets.

Kids Yoga with Maxine Bonus

As a non-competitive physical activity yoga develops essential life skills while cultivating physical health and fitness. Through creative play, breathing exercises, yoga postures and relaxation, young children explore the physical, mental and emotional benefits of yoga in a fun-filled learning environment. Children can receive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness. In addition, their concentration, sense of calmness and relaxation improve. As yoga is sensory based it can be both calming and stimulating to the sensory system, by learning about the breath and utilizing it as a tool to calm down a child’s central nervous system it helps enormously with self-regulation. In yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with their inner self and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them.

Playball 1.30 – 2.20 (JUNIOR & SENIOR INFANTS ) AND 2.30 -3.30 1ST – 3RD CLASS www.playballbray.ie
Our aim at Playball is to introduce your child to sport in a positive, fun and non-intimidating way. The program is progressive in nature and recognises the different stages of development in young children. This means that your child will be introduced to basic movement and ball skills in the initial stages of the program and will progress to formalized and structured sports coaching in the latter stages of Playball. Playball also teaches the basic skills of 8 different sports which means that children can realise at an early stage which sport they like and are good at.

Sally’s Sewing Club – 2.30 – 3.30 ONLY 2nd – 6th Class
Have fun learning how to sew, sew on buttons, make small repairs to clothes and toys. Create your own sewing project. All materials and equipment provided.

Athletics – Eithne Walsh 1.30 – 2.20 (JUNIOR & SENIOR INFANTS) & 2.30 -3.30 1ST – 6TH CLASS
Athletics will be coached by Eithne Walsh a Level 2 AAI Coach with 7 years’ experience coaching with Inbhear Dee Athletics Club. The sessions will focus on the fundamental movement skills around running, throwing and jumping in a fun environment. These 3 skills are the basis for all sports and will result in stronger muscles and bones, more endurance and greater flexibility and strength. It will enhance the child’s confidence in their physical body and its capabilities. These can be lacking in this generation due to the massive changes in lifestyle that have occurred over the last 20 years. “The first 12 years have so much to do with how the next 80 turn out” – lay the foundations for a healthy life now!

Drama – Maeve – Wednesdays 1.30 – 2.20 (JUNIOR AND SENIOR INFANTS)
2.30 – 3.30 for 1st – 3rd CLASS
Drama Classes with Maeve focus on encouraging children to tap in to their creativity and blossoming imaginations in a relaxed, fun and friendly environment. Classes include making and using puppets, introduction to mime, moving to music, improvisation, poetry and lots of fun drama games.

Sugarcraft – Gina McDonogh Wednesdays 2.30 – 4.00pm 3rd – 6th CLASS ONLY
Please note this class is 1.5 hours long.
I have been involved in the Sugarcraft for the last 17 years and have been teaching the craft for the last 7 years. Classes are fun, relaxed, creative and interactive.
I demonstrate how to make the figures step by step and then give the kids time to recreate each step. The kids then bring home their own sugar paste figure each week. Each class is 1 1/2 hr long from 2.30pm to 4pm. I supply all tools and materials.

Arts & Crafts – Amber Godwin 1.30 – 2.30 (Junior & Senior Infants)
Let their imagination run free in Arts and Crafts class with Amber Godwin. Children will have the opportunity to try out many materials and techniques, with a different project each week. All materials provided. Please note there will be no class on Thursday 8th June.

Arts & Crafts – Amber Godwin 2.30 to 3.30 (1st to 3rd Class)
The 2.30 session is a practical class using more advanced techniques than the juniors. Children will have the opportunity to explore different materials and textures through hands on craft activities involving clay, fibre, paper and card, as well as many other materials. The usual cutting and sticking will be joined by sculpting, sewing and creating in other ways while they make fun and sometimes practical crafts. We will also be exploring the use of colour, depth and composition in a fun and engaging way using paint, pastels and pencils. Famous and not-so-famous art works will be used as inspiration for our own creations. This is a varied class with lots of flexibility to explore children’s own creativity. Please note there will be no class on Thursday 8th June.

Irish Dancing 1.30 – 2.20 (JUNIOR & SENIOR INFANTS) & 2.30 – 3.30PM 1ST – 6TH CLASS
The Dowling School of Irish Dancing
A fun, energetic class, catering for all ages and abilities. Irish Dancing is the quick and precise movements of the feet to traditional Irish music. It provides physical benefits such as increased stamina, core strength and general overall fitness. Irish dancing also improves balance, posture, coordination and memory building, all while having fun at the same time. Children can wear tracksuits or leggings and runners for this class.

Chess 2.30 to 3.30 ONLY 2nd to 6th Class Eamonn O’Hanrahan & Brian Daly
Eamonn and Brian will run Chess classes for 2nd to 6th class pupils every Thursday.
