We have had a very busy few weeks in Junior infants. We knew we were off to a great start when our magic play dough changed colour which is a clear indicator that we would have a super year! We have been classifying objects into groups in Maths, learning about ‘Mé Féin’ in Irish, practicing our days of the week and colours of  the rainbow. You may hear bits of ‘Rollaí pollaí’ or ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’, being sung around the house along with the very catchy ‘Days of the week’ song. We are reading the Miss Beanie golden rules books which help us to remember the importance of gentle hand, listening ears, working hard and inclusive play.

Our theme for the month is ‘Myself and My school’. We explored this theme in the outside Aistear (curricular framework which allows learning through play) stations (1) building a school – big wooden bricks and large plastic bricks (2) the countryside and surrounding areas around my school – small world (3)what I eat at home before I come to school or when I come home – Kitchen area and (4) building my house or school  – the sand area. The children have been encouraged to use the vocabulary entrance, exit, principal’s office, secretary, classroom, janitor, hopscotch, pedestrian crossing etc.

Last week we had to move Aistear indoors due to the wet weather we will continue to use the outdoor area as much as we can on the fine days. We also managed to take the parachute out to the top field which was great fun in the sunshine.

Other activities included making our own musical instruments and planting magic seeds from the fairy, We will be able to watch the seeds change in our clear vases which the children decorated beautifully.
