Extra-Curricular Activities Programme Term 2 Jan – April 2019

Term 2 of our extra-curricular activities programme will begin on Monday 21st January and run until Thursday 11th April.

You can register for term 2 from Tuesday 15th January until Thursdays 17th January from 9.00am until 10.00am. I will be in the library each morning to receive forms and registration fees. All queries to [email protected]

All our term 1 activities will continue for term 2. We are delighted to confirm that we have added Alison’s Glee Club to the timetable for the new term, Rory’s will teach Multisport this term, yoga will add a 2.30pm class this term & Denise & Cathy will run Lego Club.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A registration form must be completed by all those registering for term 2 regardless of whether your child was attending an activity in term 1 or not.

REGISTRATION PROCESS                                                                                                                                              If your child attended a class in term 1 and you would like them to continue that class for term 2, please drop a completed registration form and term 2 registration fees in to myself in the library (9am-10am) between Tuesday 15th and Thursdays 17th January or drop it into the school office in a sealed envelope for attention Lisa Jervis.

If your child did not attend a class in term 1 and you would like them to join a class for term 2, please complete the registration form attached and come to the library on one of the registration mornings to confirm if there is a place available.

If your child attended a class in term 1 and you do not plan to register them for term 2, please email [email protected] as soon as possible so we can allocate that place to another child.

REGISTRATION FEES         

Term 2 fees must be paid in full by Friday 1st February.

We would ask as many parents/guardians as possible to pay your registration fees directly into our extra-curricular activities bank account. Inputting the IBAN and BIC numbers below only takes a couple of minutes and it is then set up for future terms.

Extra-Curricular Activity Class Information                                                                                              Please find below a full list of classes, including days, times and fees. Please give your child a small snack and extra drink to have at the start of each activity and ensure they wear appropriate clothing for the various activities, runners and comfortable clothing for sports activities and something old/well-worn for arts/science classes. We would like to advise parents/guardians that places in our extracurricular activities programme are only available to children who are pupils of Wicklow Educate Together NS. MONDAY

Anyone 4 Science   1.30pm – 2.20pm (SENIOR INFANTS ONLY ) AND 2.30 -3.30 1st – 6th Class  www.anyone4science.com

Anyone 4 Science is an educational organisation providing hands-on science and engineering activities for primary school children. They take science subjects normally taught at third level and present them at primary school level through age appropriate experiments. Each week the children will participate in a hands-on activity. Most weeks they will make something they can take home.

Fee €82.00 for a 10-week term (Monday)

Alison’s Glee Club – 2.30pm – 3.30pm (2ND– 6th CLASS ONLY)

Please note there will be no class on Monday 8th April.

Alison will run Glee Club this term, where the children will learn a range of different music genres, working as a team to harmonise and expand on each song. While learning new and familiar songs, the children will be taught the music elements of the Primary School Music curriculum.

Classes will be vocal based for the first term but children who play a musical instrument can bring their instruments from term 3 onwards.

Soccer – Joe & Brian 2.30pm – 3.30pm (2nd to 6th Class ONLY)

Joe and Brian will run soccer classes every Monday for our 2nd to 6th class pupils.

Denise & Cathy’s Lego Club – 2.30pm – 3.30pm (1st – 4th Class ONLY)

Lego club is a creative brick building and social activity club for children. The Lego Club offers a fun programme of free play, themes, challenges and games for one hour on a weekly basis. The idea of Lego club is to encourage imagination, foster creativity, problem solving, sharing, teamwork, self-esteem and sociability.

Yoga 1.30pm – 2.20pm (JUNIOR & SENIOR INFANTS ) AND 2.30pm – 3.30pm 1ST – 6TH CLASS

Kids Yoga with Maxine Bonus. Through creative play, breathing exercises, yoga postures and relaxation, young children explore the physical, mental and emotional benefits of yoga in a fun-filled learning environment. Children can receive enormous benefits from yoga.  Physically, it enhances flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness.  In addition, their concentration, sense of calmness and relaxation improve.  As yoga is sensory based it can be both calming and stimulating to the sensory system, by learning about the breath and utilizing it as a tool to calm down a child’s central nervous system it helps enormously with self-regulation.  In yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with their inner self and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them.

TUESDAY

Sally’s Sewing Club – 2.30pm – 3.30pm (2nd – 6th Class ONLY)

Have fun learning how to sew, sew on buttons, make small repairs to clothes and toys. Create your own sewing project. All materials and equipment provided.

Rory’s Multisport – 2.30pm – 3.30pm (1st – 3rd CLASS ONLY)

New for this term! Practice your ball skills, have fun and get fit with a variety of indoor ball games! Throw ball, bench ball, basketball and lots more.

Alan’s & Maeve’s Cookery Class – (3rd – 6th Class ONLY) – 2.30pm – 3.45pm

Please note this class is 1.15 hours long.

Each week we will learn a new recipe with a mixture between healthy dishes and tasty treats. Children will learn some basic cookery skills in a fun and friendly environment. Each week children will add their recipes to their recipe copy allowing them to build up a collection of dishes they can try at home.

Fee €110.00 for an 11-week term (Tuesday) – all ingredients supplied by the school.

WEDNESDAY

Athletics – Eithne Walsh   1.30pm – 2.20pm (SENIOR INFANTS ONLY) & 2.30 -3.30 1ST – 6TH CLASS

Athletics will be coached by Eithne Walsh a Level 2 AAI Coach with 7 years’ experience coaching with Inbhear Dee Athletics Club. The sessions will focus on the fundamental movement skills around running, throwing and jumping in a fun environment. These 3 skills are the basis for all sports and will result in stronger muscles and bones, more endurance and greater flexibility and strength. It will enhance the child’s confidence in their physical body and its capabilities. These can be lacking in this generation due to the massive changes in lifestyle that have occurred over the last 20 years. “The first 12 years have so much to do with how the next 80 turn out” – lay the foundations for a healthy life now!

THURSDAY

Arts & Crafts – Amber Godwin 2.30pm to 3.30pm (1st to 6th Class)

In Arts and Crafts, we aim to provide a creative space to explore different materials and techniques. This term we will be trying out felting, model making, papercrafts and using natural dyes among other things. It is a very fun and hand on class that encourages creativity and imagination. All materials included.

Fee €110 for an 11-week term. (Thursday) 

Irish Dancing   1.30pm – 2.20pm (JUNIOR & SENIOR INFANTS) & 2.30 – 3.30pm 1ST – 6TH CLASS

The Dowling School of Irish Dancing

A fun, energetic class, catering for all ages and abilities. Irish Dancing is the quick and precise movements of the feet to traditional Irish music. It provides physical benefits such as increased stamina, core strength and general overall fitness.  Irish dancing also improves balance, posture, coordination and memory building, all while having fun at the same time. Children can wear tracksuits or leggings and runners for this class.

Fee €88.00 for an 11-week term (Thursday) or €154.00 for 2 siblings

Chess – 2.30pm to 3.30pm (2nd to 6th Class ONLY)

Eamonn and Brian will run Chess classes for 2nd to 6th class pupils every Thursday. From beginners to experienced players, all welcome.
