Research suggests that when parents work closely with their children’s school the children perform better.
To help you decide if you would like to become involved here is a brief description of what the committee does and what is involved in the various roles.
“The mission of the PTA as stated in the Wicklow Educate Together NS PTA constitution: Our mission is to provide a structure through which parents in the school can work together in partnership with the Principal, the teachers and the BOM to ensure the best possible education for our children and to promote and uphold the Educate Together ethos of our school: equality based, co-educational, democratically run and child centered. The PTA will at all times operate in a manner that respects the dignity of all members of the school community.”
The Committee meets roughly once a month. It is made up of the chairperson, the vice-chairperson, secretary, treasurer, teacher’s rep, class reps and parent members.
The Chairperson as the name suggests chairs all meetings. Along with the secretary he/she lays out the agenda prior to each meeting. The chair also liases with the school principal and the Board of Management when necessary.
The Vice-Chair works in cooperation with and supports the chair and stands in when the chairperson is not available.
The Secretary keeps track of all correspondence to and from the PTA. Also in cooperation with the chairperson ensures that the agenda is set out before each meeting and is distributed to all committee members.
The Treasurer records all monies raised and spent by the PTA during the school year. The treasurer also works with the treasurer of the BOM who keeps final accounts of all school finances.
