We have continued with the Harvest and Autumn theme this week. In English we have introduced five new letter sounds, included in these were diagraphs ( two sounds coming together to make one sound). So far, in class, we have learnt the follow sounds;
s, a, t, i ,p ,n ,c, k, e, h, r, m, d, g, o, u, l, f , b, ai, j, oa, ie, z, w.
Next week, all going well we hope to introduce the following sounds;
ng, v, oo, y and x.
Lots of the children have started blending sounds to read simple words. Please continue to practice the sounds every day at home as this really helps to build up the children’s confidence in blending. You could try writing out some simple words to see how they get on reading them such as bat, cat, hat, rat, frog, bug, web, log and slug.
In Gaeilge we are learning about school ‘Scoil’ and in Maths we are comparing objects according to size. We have read the story ‘The Little Red Hen’ which prompted our bread and butter lesson which was great a lovely way to explore the story.
In Aistear the children made scarecrows, painted their Autumn hand trees, went on a nature trail to find signs of Autumn , created a small world little red hen story with bricks and miniature story characters and we also made a habitat for our hedgehogs to hibernate in as the weather grows colder.
