We started the new theme of Houses and Homes this week in Aistear. The children explored the theme through a number of stations. We were without our iPads this week but luckily Eileen captured some excellent moments in the garden where the children were working as builders and architects designing and building various houses. I would like to give a special mention to the Men’s Shed in Greystones who made the large garden wooden blocks for me, they spent so long hand sanding each block so the children wouldn’t encounter any splinters.
The vocabulary we focused on this week included the words, bungalow, semi-detached house, apartment, cottage, caravan, detached house, two storey house, terraced houses etc. We also looked at what furniture we might find in different rooms in the house. We read the stories, The Three Little Pigs and My House is a Squash and a Squeeze.
We continued with our letter sounds we focused this week on the following diagraphs : ee,or, th, sh, ch,and ou.
In Irish we are learning about Sa Bhaile (A Home) and in Maths we are comparing tall and small and we are started to introduce the first 2D shape – the circle.
In Learn Together we have been focusing on the Hindu festival of Lights – Diwali.
