Thank goodness for the sunshine this week. We managed to go outside everyday and make the most of the fine weather. Our theme for the month is ‘Myself’ and we are taking in aspects of school and home life.
We explored this theme in the outside Aistear stations (1) building a school – big wooden bricks and large plastic bricks (2) the countryside and surrounding areas around my school – small world (3)what I eat at home before I come to school or when I come home – Kitchen area and (4) building my house or school – the sand area. The children have been encouraged to use the vocabulary entrance, exit, principal’s office, secretary, classroom, janitor, hopscotch, pedestrian crossing etc.
We also had our first Art lesson which reinforced our learning of the colours of the rainbow, in Gaeilge we are continuing with the theme ‘Mé Féin’ and in Maths we are classifying and matching objects. It has been such a great week and the Junior Infant team definitely feel like we’re getting to know each child and their unique ways which is when the magic really begins to happen.
