Railings – The railings at the front of the school are designed as handrails. We have been advised by the builders that they are not designed to climb on or slide on. They have already been mended this year and we ask that parents supervising their children at the beginning and end of the school day encourage the children to use them as handrails only. Thank you.
Mobility Committee Update
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Thank you for helping to keep the children safe by following the school safe parking and set down system. However, there is a small, but persistent number of parents who ignore these rules for their own convenience. Parking on the school access road causes serious congestion for other parents, school buses and visitors to the school. Also, ambulances are more than occasionally called to the school and cars parked inappropriately are blocking emergency vehicle access.
Parking on or near pedestrian crossings is a road traffic offence. It puts children at risk as they cannot see oncoming cars, nor can they be seen by drivers. For safety reasons, please do not park on or close to pedestrian crossings.
The staff carpark is for school staff only. Please do not park in the staff carpark at any time during the school day.
Dangerous parking and driving practises on or near school grounds may be recorded and reported to the local Gardaí where necessary.
Please note that parents who persistently disregard these school rules will be contacted by school management to meet and discuss the issue. Safe set down and parking rules are in place to protect our children. Please respect these rules and other road users to help keep our children safe and our school a better place.
We would like to remind parents/guardians that the speed limit in the school grounds is 10K.

PTA UPDATE
Gardening Party – Your school NEEDS YOUR HELP!! Even half hour of your time would really go a long way in the garden. We got off to a good start last week, weeding the teaching garden in preparation for the children’s class crops in September. The School has been kindly donated hedging and bulbs and we are looking for a Parent Gardening Party to plant the hedging and bulbs on Friday 25th May and Friday June 1st after drop off. We also have lots of weeding to do including the front landscaped areas and the poly tunnel . No previous experience necessary! Please sign up on the sign in sheet at reception or simply turn up on the day with your gardening gloves and trowels!
Bike to School Day – Bike to School Day will take place on Wednesday 13th June. There will be three routes this year, starting in the Grand Hotel, Broomhall Business Park and Hudson’s Garage. If you would like to help on the day and are Garda vetted with our school, we are looking for volunteers to ride along with the children, 3 escort cars and help at the school to hand out fruit refreshments and help with the bike parking. There will also be a raffle for a new bicycle to be held to celebrate bike to school day. Please email us on [email protected] letting us know where you can help. We already have a few teacher volunteers onboard with their bikes so we’re hoping our parents can also dust off their high nellies!!!!
Coffee Morning for next year’s new coming families 15th June 9.00-10.30
We will be hosting a coffee morning in the School Hall on 15th June from 9.00-10.30. We will be inviting the parents of incoming Junior infants and the parents of new children joining our older classes in September to come in and meet other parents and get a feel for the school community.
In particular, we would like to invite the parents of this year’s Junior and Senior infants to be on hand to offer sage advice for the incoming families, however as always everyone welcome! If you can please bring a cake or a few buns to soak up the fresh coffee. Younger siblings and next year’s infants more than welcome and a toy corner will be provided.

As you are all aware Parents are very welcome to come to Sports Day in WETNS. This year the PTA would like to organise Fruit snacks and water top up stands for the children to fuel up on the day. All parents are welcome to attend, ADMISSION IS FREE and lunch is provided
Keynote Speaker is Tako Rietveld from the Netherlands with his presentation Making the voice of young people heard.
Tako Rietveld is the world’s first and only ‘Youth Correspondent’.
Children look at the world from a different perspective than adults. They have their own unique thoughts, views and opinions. With Tako’s help, we can learn from the children and act on it. He will take us on his journey into the world of young people. With powerful examples he will show young people are more than just happy creatures that like to play. ‘Children inspire, surprise, make you think and make you smile. Adults teach children all about life. Children teach adults what life is all about.
As a former reporter for the Dutch NOS ‘Jeugdjournaal’ Tako has travelled all over the world reporting for children about the various situations in the world. Tako set-up the ‘De Kindercorrespondent’ platform so that the stories and the opinions of children can be heard. According to Tako children are too rarely heard in the news. He won’t stop until the voice of every child is being heard!
Other speakers include the Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton T.D, Paul Gilligan CEO of St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services and a spokesperson from the Ombudsman for Children’s Office.
