We hope you all had a wonderful summer. The new school year begins on Thursday 31st August 2017. We extend a very special warm welcome to all new families, pupils & staff to Wicklow Educate Together N.S.
Coffee Morning All parents/guardians of the school are welcome to come along for refreshments at a coffee morning hosted by the Parents Association in the school hall from 9am on Thursday 31 August.
Re Junior Infants
Teachers Your child’s teacher is Kate Cahill or Eileen Power.
School hours for Junior Infants are as follows:
8.50 – 12.30pm Thursday 31st August to Friday 15th September
Infants ASD classes 8.50 – 12.00pm Thursday 31st August to Friday 15th September. Your child’s teacher is Denise Delaney.
From Monday 18th September, Junior Infants will attend at the normal school time of 8.50am–1:30pm
First Day Please bring you child to the rear of the building through either side pedestrian gate, school staff will be present to help you find your way. This is how you will access the building each morning. On the first day only, Thursday 31st we would like you to bring your child to school at 9.15am. This will help with settling all the Junior Infant children as gently as possible. Please leave the classroom as soon as possible so that the teacher can settle in all the other children as they arrive
After leaving your child into class on the first morning, you are invited to refreshments in the hall hosted by the schools Parents Association, which is a lovely opportunity for you to meet with other parents of the school.
School Lunches Your child will need a drink & snack for one break time for the first two weeks.
From Monday 18th September, your child will need enough food and drink for two breaks. Please note that due to some severe allergies, nut, nut extract & strawberries are not allowed in school. The school operates a healthy eating policy-no crisps, chocolate, fizzy drinks.
Collection Time Please wait in front of the main school building as your child will not be allowed out until the teacher can see you there.
School Bag & Pencil Case Your child will need to have a small pencil case containing a ‘chubby’ pencil and some ‘chubby’ crayons and an eraser, all other art & craft materials & copies will be supplied by the school. Your child’s schoolbag will need to hold the lunchbox, pencil case and an A4 folder. Please label all belongings.

WETNS SAFE SETDOWN
- Vehicles are permitted to enter the school grounds for SET DOWN ONLY (i.e. driver does not leave the vehicle).
- There is NO PARKING within the school grounds. Parking spaces are for staff and visitors with business in school only. Please do not stop or park on access or exit roads or anywhere outside of the set down area.
- Please do not “double park/set down” anywhere alongside vehicles in the set down zones.
- Please, where possible, park outside the school grounds and enter on foot.
- Please be mindful that there are young children entering and leaving the school building, some of whom may not always adhere to the pedestrian crossings.
- Maximum speed within school grounds 10 km per hour.
- SET DOWN ZONES:
- BLUE ZONE: RESERVED EXCLUSIVELY FOR WETNS PERMIT HOLDERS to allow pupils with special needs ease of access to the school building. Permit must be clearly displayed on the windscreen of your vehicle. Non-permit holders are requested not to park or set down in these spaces.
- RED ZONE: reserved exclusively for school buses. Private vehicles are not permitted to park or set down in this area.
- YELLOW ZONE: SET DOWN ONLY. Drivers are not permitted to leave their vehicle. Once children have safely left the vehicle, please exit the yellow set down zone immediately.
- The above system is designed to ensure safe and quick access to school. Please see WETNS vehicular access set down diagram attached. Please be patient and courteous. Thank you for your co-operation.
Extra-Curricular Activities Update
Meeting Monday 4th September 7pm – We would like to invite you to a short meeting on Monday 4th September at 7pm in the school hall to update you on our extra-curricular plan for the new school year. The meeting will provide information on
Breakfast club – launching on Monday 11th September 2017.
Extra-curricular activity programme – Registration on 27th, 28th and 29th September and term one starting on Monday 2nd October 2017.
Homework club
Copies of registration forms for our Breakfast and Homework clubs are attached below and will also be available on the night of the meeting. Look forward to seeing you there. Please return registration forms to [email protected]
Aftercare – (from 1.30pm – 2.30pm) for Senior Infants will start on Thursday 31st August at a cost of €5.00 per day for one hour. Please note, as our new Junior Infants will finish at 12.30 for the first 12 days, aftercare will be available for Junior Infants from 12.30 – 2.30 from Monday 4th September to Friday 15th September at a cost of €10.00 per day for the two hours.From Monday 18th September aftercare will run from 1.30pm – 2.30pm Monday to Friday for Junior and Senior Infants.
Homework club – (from 2.30pm – 3.30pm) for 2nd – 6th class every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will start on Monday 4th September. If you wish to register your child/children for homework club please complete the attached registration form and return it to [email protected]. Cost per day is €5.00. Please note 24-hour notice is required for attendance.

Book Rental – We are now organising our book rental books for distribution in all classes next week. If you have not already paid your child/children’s book rental for 2017/2018 we would ask that you utilise the payment link sent by email over the summer or contact the school office to make payment as a matter of urgency to ensure your children’s books are ready for start of term.
Sundry Payments 2017-2018 – Sundry payments for 2017/2018 are now due. Please utilise the on-line payments system launched earlier this year (email link can be resent on request) or make payment at the school office. Thank you.
